Thank you for taking the time to be enlightened about Southwood High School Ninth Grade Academy. Our goal is to ensure a seamless transition for students from middle school to high school. The teachers and staff are eager to teach and provide exciting learning activities for students. We require all students to achieve at their maximum potential and offer many opportunities for them to grow and develop into mature young adults.
- The ninth grade academy is self contained and is located in the D-wing area of the school. The ninth grade principal, counselor, and disciplinarian offices are within a few steps of every classroom. This allow for immediate intervention when necessary.
- The ninth grade class will be divided into two teams. Each team will consist of four teachers who will teach English, Algebra, Physical Science, and World Geography.
- All first year freshmen will share a common lunch shift which is exclusive to 9th grade students only.
- In order to promote student success, the teams will work towards common goals and compete academically for team rewards.
By the end of the year, our ninth grade students are well adapted to the routines and responsibilities of high school. They will be prepared for tenth grade and excited to take on the challenges of being an upper classman.
