ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES FOR NEW STUDENTS
BLOCK SCHEDULE
Southwood High School is on a 4 X 4 Block Schedule. Four subjects are
taken the first half the year, and then four new subjects are taken the second
half after the Christmas break for a total of 8 credits per school year.
Classes are 90 minutes each, 4 classes per day
with the same classes being held each day, Monday thru Friday.
School begins at 8:35 am and ends at 3:35 pm.
To register a student at Southwood, you will need
the following list of information and forms.

Proof of residence showing Parent/Legal guardian's name and address in the Southwood School district. A Utility bill, deed, rent/housing contract is an excellent example of what we will accept.

Louisiana white health card showing that all immunizations are up to date. Health records may be obtained from the Health Unit on 1035 Creswill Avenue or from your family doctor.

Last Report card/transcript from your previous school showing promotion. All grades earned in high school are required.

Withdrawal sheet from the previous school attended.

GEE/LEAP (Graduation Exit Exam) scores from your previous Louisiana school for all students that have completed the 10th grade.

Birth Certificate

Social Security Card

Out of state/Private school students will need a copy of recent IOWA scores.

Incoming 9th graders need to provide a copy of the current year's LEAP results.
REQUESTING EMAIL ADDRESSES
Southwood is also requesting all parents and
students to provide us with your email address so that we can keep you informed
on important school issues. Experience has shown that when parents are
informed, students do better in school.
If you do not have an email address, or do not wish to provide one, we
understand but hope that you will participate in receiving emails from the
school about school projects, testing dates, and activities.
UNIFORMS
School Uniforms ARE required as of the 2008-2009 school year. Please navigate to the dress policy page or contact the school with questions.

MAGNET PROGRAMS
Enrollment into the Magnet Programs offered
by Southwood requires additional information that will be available on the
website for each of those programs.
EXCHANGE STUDENTS
Caddo Parish Schools and more specifically Southwood High School recognizes that
Foreign Exchange Students present us with the opportunity to enrich our student
body with a culture understanding that text books can not provide.
Students are accepted from organizations that are listed with the Council on
Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) based upon written
approval from the Principal.
To enroll Exchange Students must provide:
Proof that their host family resides
in the Southwood School district
A copy of their Passport and J1 Visa
Louisiana Health Card showing that
immunizations are up to date
Information package on the Student
from the Exchange Organization
A copy of the previous year's transcript from their home country school
Students must be able to speak and understand English.
Exchange students may not graduate or participate in Senior graduation exercises.
In addition, the Name, Address and Phone number of the Representative responsible for the student must be provided and that representative must live within within 75 miles of the school/student and be available to the school administration to discuss any issues that might develop.

SCHOOL HANDBOOK
If you are
enrolling in Southwood as a Freshman in the fall, you will receive a school
handbook shortly after your classes begin. Students coming to Southwood at
other times may need to ask for the handbook from Mr. Maneiro in the School
Office as supplies are limited. However, we have the entire handbook
online here for your review.
