Coach Hearne

Head Coach

Jay Hearne graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1996 where he was a member of the varsity baseball and basketball teams.  He was also a member of the National Honor Society.  Coach Hearne then attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where majored in and graduated in Business Administration – Accounting.  In 2014, after spending 10 years in the accounting industry, Coach Hearne became the head baseball coach at Doyline High School where he spent two years.  In 2016 he joined the staff at Southwood High School. 

 

He has been married to his wife Summer for 18 years.  They have 3 children – Parker, Cooper, and Brooke.

Coach Markray

Assistant Coach

 

Thaddius Markray begins his first season as an assistant coach at Southwood High School.

Coach Markray is a native of Springhill, LA where he graduated from Springhill High School. During his high school career as the Lumberjack’s 3rd baseman Markray received All-District and All-American honors in 1996 and 1997.

In 1997 Coach Markray was a 3rd round draft pick out of Springhill High School for the Cincinnati Reds. Markray begin his pro career as a 3rd baseman, but in 2000 moved from 3rd base to the pitching mound. His career in the minors includes the New York Yankees – 2003, Kansas City Royals – 2004-2007 (made it to AAA in 2007), Shreveport Bossier Captains – 2008-2010 and was also the pitching coach for the Captains during 2009-2010. The summer of 2011 – Pitching Coach for the Grand Prairie AirHogs who went on to win the American Association championship.

Coach Markray resides in Shreveport, LA and has one son, Javien (9).

Southwood Baseball team  worked with an organization called Feed the Homeless - The players go every Saturday to give back to our Community.

Over the last several weeks the Cowboy Baseball program has been collecting books and Wednesday they delivered over 150 new books to a group of kindergarteners at Walnut Hill Elementary.  Each senior read a Halloween book to each class and the whole group distributed a book, pencils and candy to each child. Thank you Walnut Hill- Michelle Felicitty for helping facilitate this effort and also Principal O’Neil (pictured with the team) for welcoming us.
