Membership in National Honor Society is limited to students who meet a high set of qualifications. The members of National Honor Society must hold and maintain high standards in these four categories: scholarship, leadership, character, and service.
Here is a summary of the qualifications:
*must have attended Southwood for at least one full semester
*must have a classification of sophomore, junior, or senior
*must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher
*must be currently active in at least two clubs and must have been active in those clubs the full current school year
*must have recommendations from their teachers
*must have a positive behavior record
National Honor Society has their induction ceremony at a banquet held at East Ridge Country Club in late April. The banquet is held in conjunction with Mu Alpha Theta and Beta Club which are also honor/service organizations.
National Honor Society holds an annual garage sale to raise money needed for their projects throughout the year.
National Honor Society members are the official ushers at graduation and wear their white collars. The National Honor Society graduates wear white gowns and their white collars at graduation. This enables all in attendance to easily recognize those students who have attained this honor.
